Gloucestershire Country Manor: MHB Steel
MHB SL30-ISO steel doors with a Living Metal Dark Bronze finish
Set within the Gloucestershire countryside, this exceptional Grade II listed country manor has evolved over centuries, with elegant late-Georgian architecture, traditional ashlar stonework and a beautifully proportioned garden loggia defining its character today.
The house has recently undergone an extensive and carefully considered renovation, preserving and enhancing its historic character while sensitively updating the property for its next chapter.
Working alongside Yiangou Architects, UltraView supplied and installed MHB SL30-ISO thermally broken solid steel double doors to the new breakfast room and adjoining loggia. Standing at over 3 metres in height, the impressive doors create a sense of scale while retaining the exceptionally slender proportions characteristic of the MHB thermally broken solid steel doors.
The MHB SL30-ISO system combines the inherent strength of solid steel with excellent thermal performance, allowing remarkably fine sightlines even at these substantial dimensions. The generous glazed openings bring natural light into the spaces while creating elegant connections between the house and its surrounding gardens.
Rembrandt Collection – Living Metal Dark Bronze
A defining feature of the project is the specification of Dark Bronze from MHB’s exclusive Rembrandt Collection of Living Metal finishes.
Unlike a conventional painted or powder-coated finish, Living Metal uses genuine metal surfaces that are individually handcrafted through processes including sanding, polishing, patination and oxidation. The result is a finish with remarkable depth, texture and natural variation.
For this project, the Dark Bronze was specified uncoated, allowing the surface to remain a true living metal. As it responds naturally to its environment, the finish will continue to patinate over time, with each frame developing its own individual character through subtle changes in colour, tone and texture.
Against the warm tones of the manor’s traditional stonework, the evolving Dark Bronze provides a beautifully understated complement, giving the steelwork a sense of permanence that will continue to mature alongside the building itself.
The completed installation demonstrates how carefully considered materials, exceptional proportions and craftsmanship can form part of the sensitive renovation of an important historic property.
